People in the area "who were strong adherents to the Methodist faith" began meeting in homes around the time of the American Revolution. Margaret (Peggy) Bramlett and her sons, John, Nathan, and Henry III, are recognized as founders of the church. The church was organized about 1779 and was referred to as Widow Bramlett’s Meeting House, Bramlett’s Chapel and then Bramlett Methodist Church. Francis Asbury tells in his journal of three visits to Bramlett: in 1799, 1801 and 1802.
The Methodist Church merged with the Evangelical United Brethren forming the United
Methodist Church in 1968. In 2024 Bramlett disaffiliated with the UMC and is now affiliated with the Global Methodist Church.
